Why is it called Glassboro?

The name comes from glassmaking: Solomon Stanger’s Glass Works in the Woods of 1779, and later the Whitney Brothers Glass Works, one of South Jersey’s most successful glass producers. Glassboro was incorporated as a borough on March 18, 1920. In 1967 the Johnson and Kosygin summit took place at Hollybush Mansion, and the 1923 State Normal School became Rowan University in 1992.

Where do older Glassboro residents go?

The Glassboro Senior Center at 152 South Delsea Drive is run by the county and open to seniors from any Gloucester County town (856-881-8504, extension 3); it is also one of the county’s weekday lunch sites for people 60 and over. Borough Parks and Recreation (856-881-1515) keeps a senior activity calendar.

Residents 65 and over can sign up for Golden Tuesdays, with no-cost downtown parking on a senior permit and a savings card for downtown businesses, at the Code Office, 10 South Poplar Street.

Helping a parent from out of town

If you are an adult child helping a parent in Glassboro, the county’s Division of Transportation Services in Sewell gives curb-to-curb rides to residents 60 and over, including medical trips, by reservation (856-686-8355). Jackie can include you on a phone or Zoom call with your parent.

FAQ

Glassboro Medicare questions

How many Medicare Advantage plans are available in Glassboro for 2027?

Glassboro uses the Gloucester County plan list. It has 39 Medicare Advantage plans for 2027 (Special Needs Plans not included) from 9 organizations. Of those, 32 have a $0 Part C premium, and 23 have a $0 combined monthly premium for Parts C and D (16 of those include drug coverage; 7 have no drug coverage, so no Part D premium). You still pay the Part B premium, which is $202.90 a month in 2026; the 2027 amount is announced around November 2026. Source: CMS 2027 Landscape file.

Can I help my parent in Glassboro choose a Medicare plan?

Yes. Your parent makes the decision and signs the enrollment, but you can join the conversation. Jackie is happy to meet with both of you by phone, on Zoom or in person, and to go through doctors, prescriptions and costs together.

Do new 2027 plans in Glassboro have star ratings?

No. CMS rates plans after they have run long enough to measure, so a plan that is new for 2027 shows as not rated. That is not a bad sign on its own; look at the network, the out-of-pocket limit and the drug coverage.

What changes for Medicare plans in Glassboro in 2027?

Counting Medicare Advantage plans with drug coverage, Special Needs Plans included, Gloucester County goes from 42 plans in 2026 to 45 in 2027. (The headline count of 39 plans on this page leaves out Special Needs Plans and includes plans without drug coverage, which is why the numbers differ.) The CMS crosswalk shows 10 plans ending with no similar plan in the county, 0 plans ending while the same company offers a plan with the same or a similar name under a new plan ID (members must enroll in it themselves), 1 plan folding into another plan automatically, and 14 new plans. Braven Health has no Medicare Advantage plan with drug coverage in Gloucester County for 2027; Devoted Health is new to the Gloucester County list. Your plan’s Annual Notice of Change lists what changes for you on January 1.

How many people aged 65 and over live in Glassboro?

Census figures (ACS 2020 to 2024 5-year estimates) show 13.3% of Glassboro residents aged 65 or older (about 3,148 people), against 17.2% for New Jersey, and 4.8% of residents of all ages with no health insurance (7.5% statewide). For people with Medicare and a limited income, New Jersey's Medicare Savings Programs, PAAD, Senior Gold and NJ FamilyCare can help with costs; the guides linked on this page explain each one.

Provenance

Sources and methodology

How the figures are derived

  • Headline plan counts and averages exclude Special Needs Plans, which have their own eligibility rules and are reported separately.
  • "$0 Part C premium" counts plans whose Part C premium is $0. "$0 combined monthly premium for Parts C and D" counts plans whose consolidated Part C + D premium is $0 (for a plan without drug coverage, its Part C premium); our guides and blog use this second count. Out-of-pocket limits are in-network amounts. The average Part D deductible covers plans with drug coverage only.
  • The 2026 to 2027 comparison counts Medicare Advantage plans with drug coverage, Special Needs Plans included, and its "$0" row uses the combined Part C + D premium, so it differs from the headline count.
  • When the CMS crosswalk ends a plan with no successor but the same company files a plan with the same or a similar name under a new plan ID, we say so; members are not moved into the new ID automatically.
  • We do not publish per-plan enrollment: the source does not carry it, and we never estimate plan figures.
